About the Creators

Phillis Gershator

Phillis Gershator was born in New York City. She worked as a children's librarian and has written several books for children. Her work has received several honors including the Anne Izard Storyteller's Choice Award and selection by "Reading Rainbow." Phillis and her husband live in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where she saw and heard the goat that inspired this story.

Wellington D. Sadler
Wellington D. Sadler

Sonia Sadler was an illustrator and a fine artist who focused on depicting the cultures, lives, and stories of peoples of African descent. Her book, Seeds of Change, earned her a Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe Award for New Talent. Her unique style drew inspiration from quilts and employed a variety of techniques and mediums--from watercolor to scratchboard. She passed away in September 2013.
