On Saturday, October 19, take part in the Freedom to Read Community Day of Action and come together with your community to fight censorship!
Check out the list of organizations that have signed on to host an event on October 19.
Book bans continue to skyrocket across the country – with more than 10,000 in the 2023-2024 school year. PEN America joins Unite Against Book Bans, the New York Public Library, the Brooklyn Public Library and other allies to host more than 150 events, rallies, and other convenings that share positive, galvanizing messages about the power of libraries and the essential role they play in the functioning of democracy.
If you are in the New York, Boston, Los Angeles, or Washington, D.C. areas, events will include a pre-screening of the first feature-length documentary about book bans, Banned Together.
If you are unable to attend an in-person event, you can share about the events using the Day of Action social media toolkit, as well as the separate social media guide.
Find support, report censorship, & read Lee & Low's banned or challenged titles.

Lee & Low staff share excerpts from some of our banned titles to encourage us to stand together, fight back, and read banned books!
